Is your party a Scientologist party?
No. Scientology is a religion – A set of beliefs and practices invented by American author L. Ron Hubbard in 1953. Science is a systematic enterprise that builds and organises knowledge in the form of testable explanations, predictions and real-world applications.
Are you actually called PASS or SAINS?
We are officially abbreviated as SAINS. However, we are keeping our @PASSPusat tweethandle as that is what most people know us by. We are currently working towards establishing a consistent identity across all platforms. Do bear with us!
Why is membership so expensive?
SAINS is not funded by any business enterprise. We also only allow a political donation capped at RM690 per election campaign. The first 1,000 “founding” Prospective Members of the party funds the party setup through personal contributions in exchange for party merchandise, #BarangBagus. Once we are fully registered, fee amendments for normal members will be tabled and reduced.
What will you be using the prospective membership funds for?
The contribution made by Prospective Members will be channelled into funding the party’s mobilisation, database, websites, branches (cawangan), and activities. The Party believes in transparency and accountability. Hence, spending will be published on our website annually after every audit.
How can prospective members contribute to policy-making?
Be an active part of our discussions! There’s no need to be shy. If you’re a Prospective Member, join our forum with your Member ID on https://discuss.partisains.org for more in-depth and niche discussions.
We are currently setting up our branches (cawangan) and grouping our members based on their states and their respective constituencies.
Which side of the political spectrum is SAINS on?
SAINS is neither left nor right, but upwards. All Malaysians are welcomed to join our rocket ride towards a Malaysia free from traditional race-based policies. We don’t believe in silos, and we would rather not be put in one.
This means that we will be more than happy to collaborate with any other political parties on a case-by-case basis, depending on their proposed policies. We don’t follow their party ideologies. We only follow the science.
How does SAINS handle 3R (race, religion and royalty) issues? Will your policies be incompatible with our Federal Constitution?
SAINS upholds the Federal Constitution as the supreme law of Malaysia. We believe that 3R issues will not deter us from creating policies that are beneficial to all Malaysians, and people need not worry about 3R issues encroaching into our policies. We do not believe in sentimentalism within politics, only in doing the right thing for Malaysia.
Instead of focusing on removing certain special privileges, SAINS aims to enforce needs-based affirmative actions from the ground up. Our first focus is to elevate and uplift pockets of Malaysian society who are disadvantaged or left behind. We believe that we can only begin our path to an Anti-Poverty Nation by first assisting those who need it most.
Since SAINS advocates for science-based policies, do you have any scientists in your party?
Members of SAINS come from all sorts of backgrounds. We have engineers, physicists, economists, and so many more. SAINS is a party for those who are passionate about evidence-based policymaking rather than a party that is only for ‘science’ people.
With that said, our party is open to ALL Malaysians who believe in enacting policies backed up by data and research. If you have any concerns, ideas, or insights that you think can help Malaysia, please feel free to reach out to us. We want to include YOU in the discussion for a better Malaysia.
What if there are policies from SAINS that the members or the people do not favour?
We follow both the evidence/data and the democratic process. If, despite the evidence there is resistance, we will continue to educate the public regarding the facts. It’s a case-by-case situation where some policies might need gradual acceptance and implementation, thus we have to keep improving our communication and education of such policies.
We must not forget that the wishes of the members and the public are also part of the data that goes into all policies. Science in a vacuum not populated by people or living things is inert.
All policies should be and must be voted on in Parliament, for that is where the people’s voice resides. We will then have to leave it to the democratic process.
What differentiates SAINS from other political parties who also access data and evidence in formulating their policies?
Other parties, especially in the government, may have access to larger data samples and resources, but they don’t seem to base their policies on these data. They might have agencies and think tanks that provide them with advice on policy, but they still don’t implement them.
Just look at the recent outdoor sanitisation controversy, with most experts saying that it is not helpful and a waste of money. But they don’t want to listen to them and insist on carrying on as before. So, it leaves one to think there are other considerations in play during decision-making, not the science or the efficacy.
Can you summarise SAINS’s goals?
Beliefs, Gender & Sexuality, Colour & Race-based Policies: SAINS aims to uphold the freedom of ALL, regardless of age, creed, belief as declared in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)
Environment, Sustainability & Biodiversity: SAINS will persevere to heed the United Nations call-to-action to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SGD)
Healthcare: SAINS will refer to universal Medical experts on proven research and World Health Organisation data and statistics
Income: We are currently working on our Guaranteed Monthly Income (GMI) paper for a clearer picture of how we wish to achieve the first step of our Anti-Poverty Nation agenda.
Mobility, Accessibility & Connectivity: SAINS aims to emulate or innovate proven global systems and structures to establish seamless connectivity within the country that ensures no one gets left behind
